THEME EXPLANATION
Reverie of a Ringmaster - An Elegant Night Under the Big Top will take guests not only back in time, but directly into the memory of the central figure of the historical 1920s circus - the Ringmaster. The reception, which begins at 6:30pm, will transform the ballroom into an abandoned circus ground in the early 1930s. Guests will arrive under the pretense that they will be participating in an auction to sell off the remaining items from the defunct Madison Bros. Circus.
As the story goes, Madison Bros. was forced to shut down after John Madison (one of the Madison Brothers) ran off with the remaining family fortune just after the Great Depression hit. This left his brother James penniless and responsible for the circus. Late one night, drowning in debt and in a fit of rage, James burnt the big top to the ground. This action marked the end of the Madison Bros. Circus, and left the entire troupe unemployed and homeless. As guests enter the neglected circus ground, they will see see not only the remains of the circus property, but the remnant of the troupe as well. After being without work for some time, most have become destitute with nothing to sustain them but their memories of what once was.
Toward the end of the reception, guests' attention will be turned to a conversation between a "bum" and a curious woman who has arrived for the auction. The bum will reveal that he was once the Ringmaster of Madison Bros. Circus, and will begin to recount his memories of the circus in the glory days. As his description becomes increasingly vivid, the pair will walk toward the dining room area, eventually ending up at "the doors." Before anyone can realize what is happening, the guests will walk even further back in time - directly into the Reverie of a Ringmaster.
